I just came across a great list of 15 Most Influential Survivalists over at Smart Survival Skills. Regardless of what you may think of their individual skills, it’s good to see anybody getting excited about the skills and experiences that these public figures bring to the masses.
I’m less familiar with some of the online presences, but some are quite close (I’ve hiked with Les Stroud, and missed meeting Mors and Ray by just a degree of separation). I’m going to make an effort to check out or re-discover some more of the people on this list. I love the production values of the Ray Mears shows (and he’s such an excellent orator), so it’s a bit hard to look at older footage (ever tried to go back and watch the Bushtucker Man?).
But perhaps the best thing about many survival books is that they always seem applicable.
So why not pick up a copy of Bushcraft or watch a video, and get inspired on those (hopefully rare) indoor days.
