Here’s a bit of an update to follow up on my previous post about Marathon’s “End of Lease” sale.
Everybody that knows me would have been proud. I stopped into the store and managed not to buy too much – just a few sets of batteries, and a rubber foot for my walking stick. I’ll probably be back for a knife when it gets closer to the end of their lease — I’m reasonably confident that they’re not going to be selling to impulse buyers, as it’s still a $100 purchase.
Currently, knives are 20% off, batteries at 10%, sleeping bags at 20-40%. I think I’m going to go back and get some good long underwear, since it’s not as likely to sell, and they have some good quality brands. They also have some good Sea to Summit dry bags and pack liners, which I’m looking to trade up for from my durable but oh-so-heavy SealLine rolltop bags.
They’ve also got some decent Adventure Medical first aid kits that are well worth their price — I don’t say weight, because they’re nice and ultralight, but still are very well equipped. As always, I suppliment a few things, and put a little Swiss Army knife into the zippered pouches. There are two smell-proof re-sealable plastic bags in the kit that I carry, and I usually also carry a knee brace.
Back to the topic at hand — it seems as if they’ll be closing for good about a week before the end of July, and not going to re-open anywhere. They are a sister site to the Army Surplus store on Yonge and Eglington, and they’ll be assimilated into that when the doors close for good.
